In recent years, very few orthopedic treatments have been written about as often as platelet-rich plasma (PRP) treatment.  PRP is believed to be very effective in the repair of a number of sports and orthopedic related injuries.  Great Lakes Orthopedics and Sports Medicine is proud to offer this technology to patients who may benefit from the unique treatment.

PRP has gained popularity after main professional athletes have undergone treatment with impressive results.  However, you don’t have to be a professional golfer or tennis player to benefit from PRP.  PRP works by increasing the concentration of platelets in your blood – which is important because platelets allow your blood to clot and injuries to heal. Your physician will perform the treatment by first drawing your blood. Then a special machine will be used to separate your platelets from the other blood cells taken. The concentration of platelets will be increased, and then combined with your remaining blood. Finally, the new concentration will be injected back into your body, at the site of your injury.

PRP is effective treatment from conditions such as tennis elbow and other chronic tendon injuries as well as arthritis, knee pain and even some fractures.  To learn more about how PRP treatment can help you, contact Great Lakes Orthopedics and Sports Medicine today.
