What Counts as a Work Injury?

Work injuries happen when you get hurt on the job while doing your normal work duties during your scheduled hours. If this happens to you, we’re here to help you heal and get back to work safely and quickly.

Process:

Here’s a quick look at how workers’ comp claims usually work:

  1. Report Your Injury: Let your employer know what happened and fill out a First Report of Injury form, following your company’s guidelines.

  2. Employer Submits the Claim: Your employer sends the completed injury report to the insurance carrier.

  3. Claim Review: The insurance carrier reviews the claim to decide if it’s eligible for workers’ comp benefits.

  4. Finding a Provider: The insurance carrier might require you to see certain doctors in their network. Keep in mind that workers’ comp rules can be different depending on your state, whether you're in Indiana, Illinois, or Michigan.

  5. Approval for Treatment: Once the insurance carrier approves your treatment, you'll be notified.

Scheduling:

Before we can schedule your appointment, we need authorization from your insurance carrier. This step confirms:

  • Your policy is active and up to date.

  • The claim has been approved for workers’ comp benefits.

The authorization should include:

  • Contact information for your case manager or adjuster (name, phone, and fax).

  • Your claim number and date of injury.

  • A description of your job (if available).

  • Details about light-duty work options (if applicable).

Once we have all the info, our Workers’ Compensation Coordinator will set up your appointment based on your needs, the type of injury, and how urgent your care is.
